Geography

Intent

At Monks Coppenhall Academy, we ensure that a high-quality Geography education instils in students a sense of wonder and fascination with the globe and its people that will last the rest of their life. Pupils will gain knowledge of many regions, people, resources, and natural and human surroundings, as well as a thorough comprehension of the Earth’s key physical and human processes. As students learn, they will get a better grasp of the interactions between physical and human processes, as well as the production and use of landscapes and habitats. Geography understanding, knowledge, and skills give the frameworks and methodologies that explain how the Earth’s features at various scales are shaped, interconnected, and change over time.

We utilise a progression of skills document to guarantee that pupils cover all sections of the Geography syllabus and that a high-quality curriculum is taught throughout the Academy (years 1 – 6).  In EYFS, pupils will be taught the knowledge and skills from ‘Understanding the World’ progress model. As an Academy, we ensure that Geography is integrated into the Academy’s breadth of study. Subject leaders direct planning through the use of high-quality teaching and learning resources via Kapow.

All programmes and schemes of work we use in Monks Coppenhall Academy and Nursery are in line with the National Curriculum.
