CURRICULUM

PE
Children are to arrive at school on their designated PE days wearing their full PE kit. PE will be taking place outdoors wherever possible, so the children should have clothing which is appropriate for the weather on that day. The outdoor PE kit includes black jogging bottoms and a plain, burgundy or black sweatshirt over the burgundy PE T-shirt and trainers. It is important to have a separate sweatshirt from the one they wear in class. All clothing should be clearly labelled with your child’s name. Long hair must be tied back and earrings removed (or covered with plasters).
SNACK
As we are a healthy school, we encourage all children to bring a named bottle into school filled only with water. This can be refilled throughout the day. We also encourage children to enjoy a healthy snack at breaktime. Please be reminded that We are a nut-free school. Please do not send your child to school with nuts or any products containing nuts.
HOMEWORK
Read 4 times a week and record in your child’s diary
Complete 15 minutes in TTRS each week
Complete 10 Maths questions on Atom

Reading
Being a fluent reader is a significant building block for academic success as reading is used across all subjects. Therefore, we ask that your child reads at least four times a week at home to develop their fluency. This can be from reading a book, or going onto MyOn and reading on there. Once a book has been read, an Accelerated Reader quiz should be completed in school to boost the children’s understanding of the book and their overall comprehension skills.
The class teacher will check your child’s diary every day and on a Monday if they have read four times during the previous week they will be placed onto the interactive wheel to win a prize! Please sign your child’s diary each time they read at home and record the name of the book and/or the page numbers they have read. If your child has read over the weekend, please indicate this in the diary.
All children, but particularly those in Reception and Key Stage One, benefit greatly from reading aloud to an adult. This provides an opportunity for the adult to check the child’s understanding of the book and support the technical aspects of reading, where necessary, such as decoding words.
Recall of Number Facts
Fluency and flexibility with number facts, including time tables, develops children’s confidence and frees up their working memory when solving more complex problems. For homework, we would like children to practise their recall of number facts using Times Table Rockstars (KS2).
Every Monday, the class teacher will check that this has been completed and children will be placed onto the interactive wheel to win a prize. If for any reason, your child has not been able to do their homework, please speak to the class teacher. At least 1 Sound Check on TTRS is recommended to be completed each week as this will support the children with their multiplication times table check.
Atom
On the Atom website your child will be assigned 20 questions, 10 for Maths and 10 for SPAG. Your child’s log in details including their usernames and password will be stuck inside their diary so they can access this information at home. The homework each week will be linked to learning they have completed the week before or in previous terms/years.
If your child is struggling with their Atom learning please speak with their class teacher who will be more than happy to help you.
