Resource Provision

At Monks Coppenhall Academy and Nursery we have our very own eight place resource provision for children with social, emotional and mental health needs (SEMH).

The children that are in the Resource Provision have access to a self-contained, low distraction classroom, sensory room and outdoor area. We provide a happy, calm and structured environment with dedicated staff, Mrs Bromilow (Resource Provision teacher) and Miss Hickson (Resource Provision teaching assistant) that allow the children to feel safe and secure.

Alongside developing their academic skills, our main focuses are teaching emotional regulation and social communication and skills. In the Provision, we use a variety of teaching approaches. These include Makaton, PECs, Colourful Semantics and Social Stories. Each child is taught from the National Curriculum. This is in line with their needs as stated in their Educational Health and Care Plan. We focus on the development of fine and gross motor skills, with plenty of sensory breaks.

Each child in the Provision is also on roll in one of our mainstream classrooms. Each week, the children spend time with their mainstream class while supported by familiar staff. This is again guided by each child’s individual need.
