Intent

At Monks Coppenhall Academy and Nursery, Design and Technology is an inspiring and practical subject. We encourage children to use their creativity and imagination to design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts, considering their own and others’ needs, wants and values. We aim to provide children with Design and Technology skills that will be vital for future jobs and provide valuable life skills. 

Children will build and apply the knowledge and skills needed to design high quality products, which they will test and refine. We help them to develop technical knowledge and skills, to handle and use tools with care and with awareness of health and safety issues. They are given the opportunity to understand nutrition and learn how to cook and use equipment safely.  All pupils are encouraged to take risks, to become resourceful, innovative citizens.
