Computing

Intent

The computing curriculum at Monks Coppenhall Academy promotes curiosity and a love and thirst for learning. It is ambitious and empowers our children to become independent and resilient, which is an important part of our character building curriculum.

We want to equip our children with, not only the minimum statutory requirements of the computing National Curriculum, but to prepare them for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of later life and employment. We want our children to grow up wanting to be software engineers, video game designers, web developers or IT consultants.

When children learn computing skills, they need to be able to apply them to be effective communicators, problem solvers and to know how to keep safe in an ever changing world. Therefore, the academy has a comprehensive plan for teaching e-safety all through the year.

During the Spring term, the whole school celebrates ‘Safer Internet Day’ to reiterate the importance of staying safe online. In addition, we regularly inform parents of important information in regards to online safety through our weekly newsletters and have held parent/carer workshops. We enrich their time in our academy with memorable, unforgettable experiences and provide opportunities that may normally be out of reach – we believe that this will pique our pupil’s interests and passions.

We work closely with consultants from IT consulting agency hi-impact, who deliver engaging and exciting sessions based around computing. The children enjoy a range of fantastic, hands-on sessions and have the chance to work with a variety of equipment to tackle computing-based challenges by participating in some fabulous practical activities.
